The Womens Center of Jacksonville is presenting a really neat looking show called "Out of the Box" ( very catchy name) on 10-16.  By looking at the artists listed its gonna be a really good show featuring some of Jacksonvilles top, female, emerging artists and some that are all ready prety well established. Hace pocas horas que teminé de ver la adaptación cinematográfica de "Onechanbara" (Chanbara Beauty, en inglés). Onechanbara es una serie de títulos de videojuegos originalmente lanzado para la Playstation 2, y luego fue lanzado otras versiones para celulares, XBox 360 y Wii, la mayoría de estas series no llegaron a salir fuera de Japón.

Lo conocí mediante dannychoo.com, y al igual con Hatsune Miku, me interesó saber de dónde provenía el personaje, que en realidad se llama Aya, una japonesa cowboy con bikinis portada de una katana para su autodefensa contra los zombies. Al juego lo comparan con Devil May Cry, dicen que tienen la jugabilidad parecida. Digo que "dicen" porque nunca jugué alguna versión del título, ni conozco a fondo su historia.

Acerca de la película, puedo decir que es buena y mala a la vez... Buena en el sentido que posee alta dosis de acción pura, y el maquillaje de los zombies quedó muy bueno, quizás algunos efectos me gustaron también. Lo malo es que, parece muy monótono, no desarrolla una historia profunda ni concreta... Cuenta que Aya busca vengarce a su propia hermana por la muerte de sus padres, pero no profundiza bien el por qué, aunque relata que hay algo en sus sangres, no sé si para curar a los zombies o para revivir a los muertos y se convierten en zombies...

Recomiendo esta película sólo a los que les gustaron jugar alguna versión de Onechanbara, si les gusta los zombies, la acción, el gore, y por supuesto, si les gusta las mujeres bonitas jejeje ^^v.

Cuando un juego que lleva menos de un año en el mercado ya suena como objetivo de una adaptación cinematográfica, es que las cosas en Hollywood no acaban de ir todo lo finas que deberían. Por supuesto también está la otra teoría, que tiene que ver directamente con la calidad del juego, si un producto es excelente y ofrece una “portabilidad” de medio, aceptable, ¿porqué no hacerlo?

Algo así deben pensar en Arad Productions, compañía del millonario y legendario productor Avi Arad, que después de ayudar a convertir a héroes de cómic como Spiderman o X men en multimillonarios éxitos de taquilla, piensa empezar a hacer lo mismo con los videojuegos.

Y el primero en pasar por la piedra, va a ser ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’. El éxito de ventas que arrasó en PS3 gracias a una historia propia del cine de aventuras más tradicional y de un apartado gráfico a prueba de bombas, empezará dentro de poco la fase de producción. ¿Cómo aguantará el juego original su paso al cine? Lo cierto es que el amigo Avi ya empieza a lanzar pistas.

“Nathan Drake no es como Indiana Jones. Lo mejor acerca de Nathan es que no se trata de un arqueólogo. No es un chico benevolente y tampoco es un buen chico. Indiana Jones siempre fue el bueno y hacía lo correcto. Drake, en cambio, es un chico que poco a poco tiene que ir tomando el buen sendero a medida que avanza el juego.”

“En el juego, la acción se sucede muy rápido y enseguida te encuentras metido en medio de la isla, viviendo la aventura. Pero la película tardará un poco más, presentaremos a los personajes y les daremos mucha profundidad. Además queremos tocar temas reales, como por ejemplo la piratería actual en América del Sur, que es algo que Naughty Dog estudió bastante en su momento, para hacer el juego.”

“Me encantan los videojuegos y me encanta unirme y compartir ideas con los desarrolladores. Espero que en el transcurso de la realización de la película seamos como uno sólo y que empujemos a la vez. Sabemos que pasaron dos o tres años creando todo el universo de sus juegos y a sus personajes, y por supuesto nuestra idea es expandir el mundo que ellos crearon. Son criaturas a las que todos cuidaremos, desarrolladores del videojuego y los responsables de la película.”

De alguna manera, como aficionado al cine que soy, me tranquiliza saber que gente verdaderamente profesional está detrás del tema y que una licencia como esta no ha caído en manos del amigo Uwe. ‘Uncharted’ me pareció, y me sigue pareciendo, uno de los títulos más completos de esta generación de consolas y su adaptación cinematográfica estaba cantada desde el primer día.

Si cuando juegas a un videojuego, repites una y otra vez algo como : “Parece una película”, es que amigo, el juego fue hecho con vistas…

Information is so readily available to most people and the accounts of injustice are reported but we unconcerned. I am angry...and it makes me sick to think of such a place exists today. Here are some headlines: There are thousands to choose from but I have selected only a few from the period of August to early September...Please don't just scan through them but read it, and feel their grief.

• Rape victim fears she is HIV positive
  A young women who claims she had been raped by alleged serial rapist Tsediso Letsoenya has told of her worst fear.
• Brothers held for child rape
  A man and his brother have been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
• ICD probes holding cell rape
  The Independent Complaints Directorate is investigating a case in which a Kimberley woman told how she "screamed and screamed" while being raped repeatedly after police officers put her in a holding cell with four men.
• Young, armed and dangerous
  At some point this year, 3 478 children were being detained across the country for various crimes - including murder and rape.
• Woman gang-raped after companion is killed
  A young woman enduring a horrific six-hour ordeal had to watch her friend being murdered before being gang-raped and dumped in the vicinity of Macassar in the Western Cape.
• Husband recounts wife's rape ordeal
  A father of two battled tears in the Cape High Court as he told how he watched alleged serial rapist Tsediso Letsoenya rape his wife.
• Death, rape in horror hijacking A Cape Town man has been shot dead and his girlfriend raped, after they were hijacked outside a magistrate's court.

  A man was shot dead and his girlfriend raped by hijackers at Mfuleni, Cape Town, at the weekend.

It is alright to worry about the environment and making poverty history. But when fundamental human rights are violated, why do we not speak out for those who can't...The answer is simple...it is not our problem!

So I have always know that my horse is jealous and possessive of me. After the first 2 weeks of riding him all those years ago he made it very clear that I was his human...it took me a bit longer to decide that he was my horse. I have had him for three and a half years now and he and I are a matched pair. We are a very cute twosome...and we know each other so well it is adorable. He is my horsey soul-mate. And I love him and he loves me.

Last week though something happened that has changed our relationship. X moved to Hill farm. And Genny is PISSED. My little jealous monster is having a hard time watching me ride X. His field is just on the other side of the creek and treeline from the ring. So he stands grazing in the gap in the treeline and watches me ride. Occasionally lifting his head giving me a look. A look that says "I cannot believe you are riding HIM". Saturday about half way through my ride he had watched enough and let out a big, angry squeal and raced up to the top of his hill. When I take X out for a walk around the property Genny will run to the top of his hill and just stare at me with disbelief.

I am trying to be extra nice to Gen. I visit him first thing when I get to the farm even though I ride X first. I make sure to spend lots of time with him and say even more I love you's then I used to. It doesn't seem to be working though. My little jealous monster has taken to running past me when I go to get him. I used to call his name and he would walk over to me. Now he hears me call from the gate and gallops full speed towards me and then runs past and up to the top of his hill. When he finally does stop he makes sure that I get his hiney, not his face. Even yesterday, when X wasn't on the property, he was still mad. The picture above was Gen walking away from me.

I know he will get over it in time. He has to. I just don't know what to do with my jealous boy until then. Any tips from you multiple horse owners out there?

The items / furniture pieces here are so much prettier than Wihardja! We were there earlier to look for a patio table to complete our cosy corner, but they didn't have the stock then and told us to go all the way to Senoko. Since it's so far away, we've decided to go another day.

Left: Got a small black square bowl with a chinese word on it. For containing Chuck's wallet, keys and personal belongings. I don't need one because my stuff are always in my bag, I don't take them out most of the time.

Next, we went to Paint Art @ Bras Basah to look at more paintings.

This set of painting comes in a pair - to be put side by side on equal level or on staggering positions. We think it may fit the wall at the staircase area. Pending.

Then, we went over to Far East Flora to look at plants. Chuck's the garderner, so he's in charge of the greens in the house.

We're looking for indoor plants. Some pots really look very cool!

Some of the tall indoor pots with plants are going for as high as $200+.

Left: BBQ pit - I think these are really too big to fit in anywhere in our home. Even if it's a small one, I'm a bit worried about the smoke getting into my neighbour's place... :)

Finally we settled on a pot of tie3 shu4. And found it a bit hard to squeeze it into the car.

Had to sit at the back to hold on to it!

At the end of the day, we put the plant into our cosy corner and it looks great! Now, only a wooden table (with nice candles) is missing from here.

Oh yes, and a bunch of tulips to jazz up the living room.

We have put the shopping for the accessories off for a long time and since I'm having 1 or 2 official gatherings this month, we should get our butts off and do some serious shopping.

There is this eye-catching shop (called Otra) at Whampoa Drive that we drive past very frequently. It's eye-catching because the shopfront contrasts against the old and dark traditional bread shop beside it.

If I have a chance I'll take another shot of the 2 shops in 1 photo, but this is it for now.

They offer stylish home furnishings like art clocks, oil paintings, vases and carpets. They could very well be offering us the finishing touch to our home! Very nice colours, modern, stunning brushstrokes :)

We're actually looking for an art clock here - a piece of artwork with a clock. Too bad their website (www.otra.com.sg) is not available now, I shall post the bamboo-apple black/white design that we like the next time.

I like this (brown soft leather - the one on the right) chair, or rocking chair, or whatever you call. Cushy enough for me to watch my dramas whole day long. The more colourful one on the left is made of fabric, not as comfortable but easier to maintain.

Price of the items, I would say they are moderately on the high side. The art clock I mentioned, (measuring 60cm by 60cm) retails at $289! That brown leather chair retails at $268! When I asked if the prices are negotiable, the sales guy said they're fixed! And only if we buy a 2nd item, then there is some 50% discount off the 2nd item. :(

Anyway, I've taken part in their contest at Home and Decor's website. Hoping that someone from Otra sees this and let me win an art clock (of my choice) - heh.

I came across the work of Emily Martin( The Black Apple ) a few months back. I had no idea that she was selling work online over at Etsy.com. This was a really cool find. I really enjoy her work. Her use of color is always interesting and her characters are fun and remind me of a throwback from like the 50's and 60's type of art work. Its really neat. I am feeling pretty tired for some reason.

Well it looks as if the 80's show scheduled to open tommorow night has been cancled. This really sucks. Here is a litte bit of what Joy at Bogda had to say about the current situation for Bogda Gallery-

The Way Of The Dodo... aka: a message from Bogda

I would like to take this time to address some issues and discuss some upcoming changes concerning the gallery. 

First off, the 80's show is canceled.  I'm sorry to the artists that did show up with their work, I'll be contacting you today to arrange pick up. 

Next is that there are some major changes coming in for next year.  Mostly solo shows and shorter runs in the gallery.  There will be no fee to show here and just the 35% commission.  Due to this change the gallery will only be open for shows and appointments. 

I know I'm late on paying some artists, and trust me I'm working on selling that kidney.  I recently had to renew all the business stuff and pay out about $800.  I didn't have $800 dollars.  You will get your money, it might take a few weeks.  Everything is written down and there are only a couple artists left that need to be paid. 

I should have managed this better, but I can only stretch so far to keep trying for this place.  As much as I love doing this, I'm slowly killing myself trying to make a difference. 

That being said, I'm checking out.  I'm finishing out booked shows for this year, next year is solo shows and gallery rentals.  I'm done with putting my heart into this place only to have to deal with bastards all the time.  My heart is going to non-Bogda art events from now on.

Lastly, consider this a notice.  If you have art at the gallery, call me at (904) 472-9310 to arrange pick up.  I'm giving 30 days notice and taking possession of the art that is left.  It's in the contract that art should not be left here over 90 days.  This does not apply to my regular artists and crafts people.  This only the artists that were here for a one month show and never picked up their work. 

It's not the end of Bogda.
