Blog Promotion
If your blog is listed as “public” in your Privacy options we do everything we can to promote it to the world.
First, you’ll notice that the links and posts on your blog have simple, easy to read URLs. Instead of something like
http://example123.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!DC85F04C20DC9767!1111.entry/
for your permalink, we make it something understandable, like
http://wordpress.com/2006/04/20/its-hazy-here/
This makes your URLs easy to read for people and search engines.
Second, we use a service called Ping-O-Matic to send out a notification whenever you publish something new on your blog. This means is when you make a new post, we notify Google, Yahoo, Sphere, Technorati, Feedster, and a dozen or so others that you have something new that they should put in their engine.
Third, everything on your blog is available as RSS. This means your content is indexed better by some of the aforementioned search engines, and also that it is easy for people to subscribe to from someplace like Bloglines or My Yahoo. This increases the number of people reading your blog. (And if you’re curious about how popular your feeds are, we offer statistics for RSS feeds too).
